John A. Algera
John A. Algera grew up in a Christian family and his parents and church gave him a strong Christian foundation that was reinforced by attending Christian schools. He made public profession of his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior while in high school. He is an ordained Minister of the Word in the Christian Reformed Church of North America. He has a calling and commitment to urban and cross-cultural ministry that is holistic, in word and deed, meeting people’s physical, relational, emotional and spiritual needs and has a passion for prayer and spiritual formation into the fullness of Christ. He has a Master of Divinity degree from Calvin Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Westminster Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of Madison Ave. Christian Reformed Church for 40 years and was involved in many areas of ministry in the city of Paterson and metro NY area.
He and his wife Debra have been married for 45 years and continue to live in the neighborhood and minister in the city of Paterson. He is author of Signs & Wonders: A Reformed Look at the Spirit’s Ongoing Work and is one of the co-founders of the Global Prayer Safari. He is a Spiritual Director with a certificate from Oasis Ministries for Spiritual Development and a member of Spiritual Directors International. In 2013 he founded Urban Wilderness Renewal which is devoted to awaken an awareness of the presence of God in the ordinary and wilderness places of our lives and in the beauty of God’s creation. He loves to fish and kayak finding great peace in and on water. Pastor John and Debra have one son Ben, daughter-in-law Emily and three grandchildren Sara, David and Joshua.
